Abstract

Abstract: Transformation of the Education Curriculum in the Malaysian Education Development Plan 2013-2015 (PPPM 2013-2015) emphasizes the concept of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) which is capable of producing a generation with critical and creative thinking. HOTS in teaching and learning has been introduced since the Primary School Integrated Curriculum (KBSR) and KSSR. This study aims to identify the need for a Thirukural module based on Guided Discovery Inquiry (MoKThI) among Year Five Tamil National Type School students in improving HOTS. This study involved 151 respondents among teachers who teach Tamil at Tamil National Type Schools in the Lower Perak and Bagan Datuk Districts. This study uses a google form questionnaire. This study is a descriptive survey and the questionnaire data is analyzed using SPSS Version 27.0 to find the mean and standard deviation. Through data analysis, it was found that 98% of teachers in these two districts face difficulties in PdP Thirukural without any module and hope that a special module for Thirukural and HOTS can be produced. This needs study has helped the researcher to arrange the appropriate steps to produce a quality module that can meet the needs of teachers and students in Thirukural PdP. The construction of the module known as the MoKThI Module (an abbreviation for Thirukural and Discovery Inquiry Based HOTS Module) has been developed based on the sequence and steps in the ASSURE Model. Through this study, it is hoped that the module produced can improve the achievement of HOTS and Thirukural of Year Five SJKT students
