Abstract

Abstrak: Kajian ini bertujuan menilai keberkesanan pendidikan Sejarah dalam menyemai semangat patriotisme dalam kalangan pelajar Tingkatan Enam di SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Gapor, Kuching, Sarawak. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan reka bentuk kajian tinjauan. Seramai 75 orang pelajar Tingkatan Enam yang terdiri daripada pelajar Tingkatan Enam Rendah dan Tingkatan Enam Atas dipilih sebagai responden melalui kaedah persampelan bertujuan. Instrumen kajian berbentuk soal selidik berskala Likert lima mata yang merangkumi dua konstruk utama iaitu keberkesanan pendidikan Sejarah dan semangat patriotisme. Kesahan instrumen disemak oleh pakar bidang manakala kebolehpercayaan instrumen ditentukan menggunakan pekali Cronbach’s Alpha. Data kajian dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan statistik inferensi yang melibatkan ujian‑t sampel bebas serta analisis korelasi Pearson. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa tahap keberkesanan pendidikan Sejarah dan tahap semangat patriotisme pelajar berada pada tahap yang tinggi. Analisis korelasi juga menunjukkan terdapat hubungan positif yang kuat dan signifikan antara keberkesanan pendidikan Sejarah dengan semangat patriotisme pelajar. Secara keseluruhannya, kajian ini membuktikan bahawa pendidikan Sejarah memainkan peranan penting sebagai wahana pembentukan jati diri serta pemupukan semangat patriotisme dalam kalangan pelajar.

Abstract: This study aims to examine the effectiveness of History education in fostering patriotism among Sixth Form students at SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Gapor, Kuching, Sarawak. A quantitative survey design was employed in this study. A total of 75 Sixth Form students consisting of Lower Six and Upper Six students were selected using purposive sampling. The research instrument was a questionnaire using a five‑point Likert scale measuring two main constructs: the effectiveness of History education and the level of patriotism. Instrument validity was examined by field experts while reliability was determined using Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics including independent sample t‑test and Pearson correlation analysis. The findings revealed that the level of effectiveness of History education and the level of patriotism among students were high. The correlation analysis also indicated a strong and significant positive relationship between the effectiveness of History education and students’ patriotism. Overall, the findings demonstrate that History education plays an important role in developing students’ identity and strengthening patriotic values among students.
