Abstract

Abstract: : The government is paying growing attention to private education being a primary and critical reserve for government education. Principals of private schools are known to be the cornerstone of technical, educational and administrative work in these schools. This requires them to be qualified and experienced in the field of administrative work, especially if they have certain administrative/technical incompetency, show a lack of interest in professional development, or face administrative and technical obstacles, which constitutes the study problem. The study aimed to highlight the administrative competencies and identify to what extent they are acquired by the principals of private schools in the Capital Municipality (Sanaa). It also sought to reveal the key obstacles that challenge the principals of private schools in the capital Municipality (Sanaa) and prevent them from carrying out their administrative competencies. The descriptive-analytical method was used due to its relevance to the research topic. The findings reached included the following: i) there are areas of administrative competencies that need training and rehabilitation, ii) the number of private schools has increased during the past twenty years, and iii) the school principals’ competencies qualify them to carry out their roles in changing the administrative and educational conditions of the school towards quality and development.
