Abstract

Abstract: This study was conducted to examine the effectiveness of the use of Qalamiy learning aids in improving the handwriting skills of MBK to hold a pencil correctly and then help them form letters. The purpose of this study was to identify the effectiveness of the intervention using Qalamiy in improving letter writing skills with the correct method and to identify the factors that influence the handwriting skills of students with special needs. A case study was conducted for qualitative data collection using checklists, teacher interviews and analysis of student work. This study was conducted on 2 students with special needs at the Alor Gajah district school regardless of background and age of students. The results of the study were analyzed using the method of observing students holding pencils, writing interview data and analyzing work results before and after the intervention. After going through an intervention for two months, students were able to form letters using the correct method and pencil grip. Continuous intervention needs to be done to master writing skills among students with special needs. The findings found that Qalamiy was able to help students hold pencils and write letters correctly. The immature way of holding a pencil, lack of continuity of skills at school and at home as well as the disabilities of students with special needs are factors that affect handwriting skills. The use of teaching aids must be applied to increase their potential and then be able to master their learning. Qalamiy is one of the tools that can help hold a pencil properly and can be used for daily teaching process of students.
