Abstract

Abstract: The practice of distributive leadership is emphasized in educational management due to its relevance and alignment with current demands, in line with the fifth shift in the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013-2025. This study was conducted to identify the relationship between the distributive leadership of school principals and the commitment of primary school teachers in the Sepang district. The study took the form of a survey, utilizing a quantitative approach through online distribution of questionnaires. The study's respondents consisted of 196 primary school teachers in the Sepang district, selected randomly. Descriptive and inferential analyses using SPSS software were employed to address the research questions. The study found that the level of distributive leadership of the school principals in the Sepang district was high, with an overall mean value (m=211) and standard deviation (sd=0.487). Meanwhile, the level of teacher commitment was moderately high, with a mean value (m=3.924, sd=0.573). The null hypothesis of this study was rejected as the findings indicated a strong relationship between the leadership of school principals and the commitment of primary school teachers in the Sepang district, with a correlation value (r=0.537). The implications of this study for training and policy involve assisting the Ministry of Education in designing distributive leadership modules to be practiced by school principals by examining the balanced needs of teachers, ensuring a consistently high level of teacher commitment. It also encourages school principals to be more creative in implementing distributive leadership practices, considering all aspects of teacher needs. Despite the study's findings showing a strong correlation between the distributive leadership of school principals and the level of teacher commitment, the moderate-high level of teacher commitment suggests that external and internal factors may hinder teachers from remaining committed to their work. In conclusion, the approaching high level of teacher commitment indicates that teachers remain loyal to serving the organization but require a conducive school culture with the implementation of distributive leadership practices practiced by school principals.
