The Prosodic Patterns, Their Variations.Abstract
Abstract: The prosody is derived from the past verb "wazana" (weighed). It has different forms: "yazinu" (weighs), "waznan" (weighing), and "wizanatan" (weight). The term "awzan" refers to the letters, whether vowels or consonants, that follow each other according to the science of prosody. We know of sixteen different prosodic patterns in the science of prosody. This science distinguishes between correct and incorrect poetry. It cannot be denied that this ancient science has become a gem in the history of Arab civilization. From this science, numerous works have emerged containing Arabic poetry in the form of qasidas (odes) and mawlid (eulogies). Most people know that the mawlid is written in prose form only, and if it is in poetic form, they call it a qasida. However, this is different from the book "Al-Diya Al-Lami", which is a mawlid written in poetic form and according to the rules of prosody.
